Using computers & the web
How good are your computer skills? Are you confident surfing on the internet?
- You may be reading this on a computer at work or library but we can't stress enough how important it is for people of all ages to both get computer savvy and have their own computers to use at home - more than 10 million people currently don't use the net in the UK.
- Being able to word process documents, create presentations and spreadsheets makes you so much more employable - you can also download the
newlifenetwork.co.uk free guide to job-hunting online below.
- You can use the internet for researching job hunting sites, apply for jobs, find information and advice, train and learn on-line or set up and run a website for your business or hobby - you can take a free tutorial on how to get the most from the surfing the web at Intute and myguide. The Open University also run a short course which counts towards any qualification you may undertake with them. There is also a useful free guide on how to search the internet using Google properly for novices and more experienced users from Googleguide.
- If you need the personal touch get friends, your kids or perhaps your local Adult Education College (they will probably run evening courses or have a learn direct facility) to help you get some IT training and steer you in the right direction - we have joined the Race Online 2012 campaign to support the development of resources and volunteer networks to help get more people online by 2012.
