The UK Government are the biggest funders of permanent jobs and other employment opportunities in the UK covering a massive variety of jobs in Local Government to Education, Tax, the NHS and so it goes on.Anyway, if you're new to the Public Sector it is worth noting that there is often a rather different recruitment process approach to that of the private sector. You will normally be given very strict guidelines on the construction of your job application, and you must be prepared to supply references up front who may well be asked to comment before you are made an offer. So, be careful which people you nominate and let them know that you would like them to vouch for you. In addition, you may have to be interviewed on the same day along with your competitors. Job offers are often made on the day or at least very shortly after. In many ways, it is much more efficient than the drawn out, ‘free for all’ which is all too common in the private sector.
