Great new books for a great new life!

If you're thinking of applying for a new job or you're looking for promotion in 2008, then make sure you prepare yourself thoroughly. It is always encouraging to be sent new books to review in the career management sphere, and it's even better when you feel that you can recommend them wholeheartedly.

My top career reads so far for 2008 are 'Why you? CV messages to win jobs' by John Lees and 'Drop dead brilliant' by Lesley Everett.

Why you?Drop Dead BrilliantRebuilding your life after redundancy

John Lees has written several top career titles and this one is no exception. Having conducted some thorough research with real life recruiters both consultants and employers he reveals how to build a credible and interview winning CV. It's practical, readable and at £9.99, a very solid investment.

I've read several 'image mattters' books but this one from Lesley Everett goes beyond the usual platitudes. I read this book whilst sitting on a busy commuter train to London full of City workers. With one or two exceptions, I could see that almost everyone in the carriage could benefit from Leslie’s pearls of ‘personal brand image’ wisdom. The scuffed shoes, shiny suits, badly cut hair and eclectic combinations of overcoats, ties, scarves and bags scarcely radiated the aura of professional competence that one would expect from the Square Mile’s finest. Lesley offers practical and easy to adopt image tips for both men and women, and even offers sound advice on how to carry off the dreaded ‘Dress down’ Friday look with panache. Again, at £9.99 this book is a small investment with big pay back.

Both books are available from amazon.co.uk and if you've been made redundant, why not try the New Life Network Handbook - 'Rebuilding your life after redundancy' to go with them.
