'Beyond the Boys Club' - a must-buy new career book for women

Posted on Thursday, 13 August 2009 11:49AM by Janet Davies, Editor newlifenetwork.co.uk
Beyond the Boys' Club'Beyond the Boys' Club: Strategies for Achieving Career Success as a Woman Working in a Male Dominated Field' by Dr Suzanne Doyle-Morris is out now and available to purchase on Amazon or www.beyondtheboysclub.com .

It's packed with vital insights and inspirational ideas written especially for women to enable them to develop their careers in a more strategic and confident manner.

I'll make a small confession here, I know Suzanne Doyle-Morris personally (she's a long standing supporter of newlifenetwork.co.uk) and in fact, I feature in the book myself along with many of my former colleagues
at PricewaterhouseCoopers. That said, it really is the kind of book that those of us who contributed to it wish had been around at the beginning of our own journeys up the career ladder. Although it is aimed primarily at women, there are plenty of ideas that men who want to get ahead could learn from it too.

The book features frank and honest interviews with successful women, from a range of organisations including Microsoft, PwC, Deloitte and the University of Cambridge, as well as formidable lawyers, a former Ambassador and an archaeologist. Each shares unique strategies and paths to their success as they collaborate and compete in sectors more usually associated with men.

In the book you'll find out how to:

  • Proactively take control of your career rather than wait your turn quietly and hope you'll be noticed
  • Establish the gravitas and substance you need to get ahead
  • Effectively negotiate the labyrinth of office politics
  • Find the mentors you want...even if they aren’t the ones assigned to you
  • Follow your instincts to know which risks are worth taking...and which you can’t afford to turn down
  • Be the professional woman you want to be
